The aim of this COST action is to establish an integrated research community linking Nutrition and Mitochondrial Physiology for health.
healthy people
MITOFOOD objectives:

1. To establish an integrated scientific community in the area of Bioactive Food Components, Mitochondrial Function and Health, focussing on:

  • Strategies, methods and determination of mitochondrial requirements for specific nutrients
  • Identification of new food bioactives that affect mitochondrial function
  • Understanding how nutrients affect mitochondrial function

2. To facilitate cross-talk between different existing research programs and to develop new research initiatives, including the writing of collaborative research proposals.

3. To develop a roadmap for research and innovation.

Reseach is divided in 4 workgroups:fruit

WG-1: Bioactive food components and mitochondrial physiology.
This workgroup focuses on methodological issues, including different (genetic) models, technology and tissue and species specifity.

WG-2: Bioactive food components, mitochondrial dynamics, bioenergetics and human health & disease.
This workgroup focuses on the possibilities of nutrition and food components to alleviate disease, in particular the consequences of inborn errors of metabolism.

WG-3: Bioactive food components, mitochondria, healthy development and healthy ageing.
This workgroup focuses on the possibilities of nutrition and food components to improve mitochondrial fitness to prevent disease and maintain health

WG-4: Standardization, innovation and application for society, government and industry.
This workgroup focuses on valorisation.
